Society for the Development of Economically Weaker Section

About

The Society for the Development of Economically Weaker Section (SODEWS), established in 2004 seeks to instill a love of learning in children and improve the quality of education in rural Tamil Nadu. SODEWS started informally in 1999 when its founding members grew frustrated at the disparity between rural and urban education. In the beginning, SODEWS attempted to recruit urban teachers to teach at rural schools in the Vellore district. When SODEWS recognized that few teachers would move from urban to rural settings, SODEWS created a program to strengthen local schools. The organization currently has over 20 volunteers and trains children, teachers and adults under various programs.
